Elliott, assistant agent, Treasury Department; 129 pp. (not numbered), 2 maps, 45 pls.; in appendix is an article entitled “Ornithology of the Prybilov Islands, by Dr. Elliott Coues, U.S.A. (based on Mr. H.W. Elliott’s manuscripts and collections).” Forty species are treated under specific headings and two or three others are referred to by Elliott in the introduction to the formal list. Original description of Tringa ptilocnemis given in a footnote. Bears date of 1873 on title page, and 1875 on cover, but was issued early in 1874. (This last sentence written by Preble and McAtee serves to highlight the complexity associated with researching the Pribilof Islands history. The authors relied upon a hard case version of the report that has imposed on the cover spine “1874” while the cover page is dated “1875,” yet contrary to Preble’s statement the document lacks illustrations.) ]
